The Magician Within |
| Accessing the Shaman in the Male Psyche |
by: Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette
|
Examine the Corresponding Quartet of Books! The authors present the psychological dynamics of the "Magician program," which enables men to move from boyhood into manhood in a positive, self-affirmative way, then enables them to help others, and they illustrate its universal presence in virtually all human societies. Next, they explore the Shadow, or destructive side, of this male potential, and ask men to look at themselves and their own lives to see how they may be caught in the destructive dynamics of either the Detached Manipulator or the Innocent One. Then readers are invited to use their capacities for thoughtful self-reflection to access the Shaman in themselves for fuller and more generative lives. The Magician is a master of his culture's power, imagination, and technology. His powers give him the ability to remake the things of his world. Through his inner vision, this man has even managed to refashion himself. The energy he has drawn upon to fuel this tranformation still serves the generations that have descended from the birdman (a Shamanic Figure from the Crypt of the Temple Cave at Lascaux, Dordogne, France, circa 20,000 to 18,000 B.C.E.). Artists, theologians, academics, and physicists, all draw on the same archetype of the Magician in their own ecstasies of mind and spirit. And their visions will transform the world, too, as they bring their ecstatic dreams into concrete form. For further reading, be sure to examine King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine and the entire Quartet of books which is a series of four books that examine the individual structures and dynamics of the male soul. Each is an indepth study of the individual male archetypal energies (King, Warrior, Magician, and Lover) that are the foundation to a mature, authentic, and revitalized masculinity.
